4th of July skin tips: Tip of the Day 7-4-22

Happy 4th of July! While you’re enjoying the barbecues, beaches, and pool parties today, remember to protect your skin! These are a few tips to maintaining a healthy glow while enjoying all the patriotic festivities. 🇺🇸

Experts have recommended, if you only use one skincare product, let it be sunscreen with SPF. Everyone, including people with dark skin complexions, need protection from the sun’s UV rays. Dermatologists suggest using broad spectrum sunscreen with a minimum SPF (sun protection factor) of 30. Broad spectrum sunscreen protects from both UVA and UVB rays. Sunscreen should be applied 15 minutes before sun exposure, and reapplied every 2 hours.

Vitamin C is a powerhouse antioxidant that is great year-round, but especially significant before and after sun exposure. Antioxidants fight against free radicals and sun damage. Experts say when vitamin C and sunscreen are used together, the abilities of both are boosted.

A hydrating facial mist will come in super handy after being in the sun. Keeping it in your cooler or fridge will add an extra refreshing cooling effect. Give your face a spritz frequently to keep it hydrated throughout the day.

Wearing sun hats and UV protective sunglasses will help keep your face and eyes safe from the sun. After all

the festivities, don’t go to bed without washing off your makeup! Makeup wipes are not enough (and they can even cause microtears in your skin). Wash your face with a facial cleanser or conditioning makeup remover. Moisturize after cleansing (if you want to minimize your skincare steps at night).

Have fun, protect your glow, and stay safe this 4th of July!
