Winding down at night may not always come easily, especially when the next day comes with a full list of tasks. When your racing mind works against you getting a good night’s rest, experts say aromatherapy could help you get the Zzz’s you need.


Diffusing these oils is a great way to disperse them into the air. But if you don’t have a diffuser, this cotton ball hack does the trick.
According to sleepassociation.org, the molecules in essential oils have an impact on our “emotional brain” when inhaled. They cause the brain to secrete dopamine and serotonin, which can elevate mood, making you feel calm and relaxed. Serotonin also helps the body produce melatonin, which happens to me the hormone that makes you feel sleepy.
Bonus tip: If you’re having trouble sleeping because of a stuffy nose from a cold or allergies, peppermint and/or eucalyptus essential oils might offer some nighttime relief!
