Sleeping Tips that benefit skin: Tip of the Day 6-7-22

Along with the sun, the way we sleep can do a tremendous job of aging our skin. Experts say swapping your cotton pillowcase for a silk one helps.

Properly hydrating skin with a night cream also helps skin repair and rejuvenate while you sleep. Layer it on nicely so that it sinks in well. I apply night cream at least 10 minutes before bed to allow time for the product to absorb before lying down.

Because mashing your face into a pillow over a lifetime is almost equivalent to ironing wrinkles into your skin, experts recommend adjusting the way you sleep to protect skin. In an interview with Byrdie,

Renée Rouleau suggests this:

“Strategically position your head so the lower half of your face never touches your pillow. What this helps to prevent is a squishing of the face, which would exacerbate the wrinkles that come with age. These are the deep creases also known as the ‘parentheses’ or ‘marionette’ lines that run from the nostril to the corner of the mouth on both sides of the face and are enhanced every time you smile or laugh.”

Also, getting enough sleep is important for healthy skin! Seven to eight hours of sleep each night is recommended.
